Sweden: Experience the Kräftskiva party

With expertise in the Nordic region, our partner NOW – Nordicways hosted groups in August for the traditional crayfish party, known to the locals as Kräftskiva.

A crayfish party is a traditional summertime eating and drinking celebration, which also spread to Finland and similarly exists in the Baltic countries.

Our Stockholm-based dmc can recreate this authentic and traditional experience, offering all the logistics and support required to any groups who would like to live this amazing Nordic experience!

The tradition stems from the legal limitation imposed for crayfish harvesting which was capped to late summer. Dining traditionally takes place outdoors and it is customary to accessorise with novelty hats, lanterns and bibs.

Alcohol consumption is often high! Akvavit and other kinds of snaps are served, as well as beer.

The crayfish are boiled in salt water and seasoned with fresh dill, then served cold and eaten with one’s bare hands. It is considered customary to suck the juice out of the crayfish before shelling it. Bread, mushroom pies, strong Västerbotten cheese, salads and other dishes are served buffet-style.

We welcome corporate groups for incentive trips and leisure groups for a dip in the culture of the Nordic countries in an unforgettable trip. Next year, Kräftskiva will be celebrated on Saturday August 8th.
