Panama is a country of amazing contrasts both culturally and geographically. Bathed by two oceans and famous throughout the world for the Panama Canal, it is also home to seven indigenous peoples that you can visit, several protected ecosystems including jungles, cloud forests and virgin coral reefs, and a wide variety of wildlife that is easy to observe. The ruins of colonial fortresses speak of epic battles between conquistadors and buccaneers; the Pearl Islands invite the traveler to relax among white sand beaches, turquoise waters, and underwater treasures; and the peaceful, evergreen rainforests along the Panama Canal are a haven for colorful birds and exotic wildlife. This unique setting is the perfect scenario to enjoy exciting adventures such as snorkeling, jungle hikes, canopy tours, indigenous encounters, horseback riding, rafting, kayaking, boat tours, and whale watching, all within one hour of the city.

But wait, we are not done yet. The comprehensive leisure offer is backed up by a wide range of luxury accommodations, from modern skyscrapers to gorgeous colonial hotels, as well as unique venues such as the ruins of Panama La Vieja, the striking Frank Ghery-designed Biomuseo, the Miraflores Locks, or the beautifully-restored mansions in the Colonial Quarter. Panamanians are extremely friendly, welcoming and love to dance and party, so it is no coincidence that Panama City enjoys a vibrant nightlife, oftentimes compared to Miami.

Day 2: Experience the famous Canal, by land and water

After breakfast, we visit the famous Miraflores Locks and watch the massive ships and the lock operation. Then, we move to nearby Gamboa Resort for lunch. In the afternoon, we will briefly navigate along those massive ships you saw this morning before entering the Canal’s backstage in search of wildlife. Dinner will be in Casco Antiguo, the beautiful colonial district where you can also enjoy the city’s vibrant nightlife.

Day 3: The Pearl Islands

Board a beautiful catamaran and set sail for the Pearl Islands, a paradise for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking right off its white sand beaches. We can even look for humpback whales and dolphins during whale season. A picnic lunch or barbeque at the beach will be served and then we will have plenty of free time to enjoy the beach before admiring the city’s skyline on our return trip.  Dinner at local restaurant of your choice.

Day 4: The Embera Indians

Travel up the Chagres River on small dugout canoes to meet the Embera, one of Panama’s five indigenous people. The village chief will be waiting to give us a brief account on the history of the tribe, traditions, culture, beliefs and handicrafts. A traditional lunch of fish and plantains (plus our signature touch!) will be served followed by a traditional Embera dance and the opportunity to shop for handicrafts or maybe get a temporary Embera tattoo. For adventurous souls, the Embera will lead you to a beautiful waterfall in the midst of the rainforest where you can take a swim in the natural refreshing pool just beneath the waterfall.

Day 5: Colonial Panama, shopping, and Panama La Vieja

Morning guided walk along the narrow cobblestone streets and plazas of the Colonial Quarter. The old city founded in 1673 displays a mixture of French and Spanish influences, which add a unique touch to this bustling and colorful neighborhood.  The afternoon is free to relax at the hotel or visit the Albrook or Multiplaza Malls and do some shopping. This evening, we head for the ruins of Panama La Vieja, the first city founded by the Spanish in the isthmus, which was later sacked and destroyed by Pirate Henry Morgan. Our farewell dinner will take place at the spectacular ruins of the old cathedral, whose tower is today a lookout point.

Day 6: Departure day

This morning, we will be transferred to the airport in time for our departure flight.
